Hawks and Owls

The meadows create a perfect breeding habitat for small mammals and insects, which provide ample prey for our breeding pair of Barn Owls which nest in the building's structure. We count ourselves very fortunate that this rare and protected species (along with Tawny and Little Owls) has chosen Acton Court as its home. Other indigenous species of birds of prey are also regular visitors.

We are associated with The Hawk and Owl Trust who undertake
voluntary work at Acton Court and conduct the evening Owl Prowls
during the Summer.

Sculptures

In the grounds, visitors can see full-size cast-iron sculptures of farm animals that would have been bred to supply the kitchens at the time of the Tudors. These remarkably lifelike creatures are the work of acclaimed British sculptress Dido Crosby, who has also created a sculpture dedicated to our growing owl community.

Artist in Residence

Acton Court has its own Artist in Residence, Lisa Kopper, whose paintings can sometimes be seen, in progress, in the North Range.

Lisa helps to manage the site and also oversees the regular special events throughout the calendar.
