His Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts

‘Like a ray of sunshine piercing the darkness‘ – the cornett is the perfect partner for a good singer. In this programme the lead players of the world-renowned ensemble His Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts are joined by the outstanding soprano Julia Gooding. They perform a varied repertoire including music from Venice, Rome, Dresden and Leipzig, with some Bach transcriptions, for which the group has recently become especially noted.The performers will be: Julia Gooding – soprano, Jeremy West – cornett, Jamie Savan – cornett, Gary Cooper – keyboard. www.jeremywest.co.uk

The Fool’s Tour

A theatrical tour in which the lady of the house, Lady Joan Poyntz, and her Fool show visitors around the new 1535 wing of Acton Court and describe the decoration and use of the rooms. The Fool questions Lady Poyntz on her preparations for the visit of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, and passes judgement on whether these will meet with the King’s approval. Then the Fool gives a short display of the kind of entertainment the courtiers will enjoy.
