Sundials, Ancient and Modern

– A talk and demonstration by Sir George White and Joanna Migdal
Horologist and Consultant Keeper of the Clockmaker’s Museum, Guildhall, London, Sir George White and his wife the sundial maker, Joanna Migdal talk about the extraordinary discovery and identification of the Kratzer sundial at Acton Court, and demonstrate the nature of modern sundials, now enjoying a new renaissance of popularity. This will be a unique opportunity to see the Kratzer sundial (right), courtesy of the Bristol Museum, which is probably the earliest surviving polyhedral sundial in England.

A Concert for the Kings
– The Madrigirls

Part cabaret, part troubadour, this engaging a cappella trio recreates the authentic atmosphere of Renaissance banquets. Their vibrant interpretation of 16th and 17th Century madrigals has brought them acclaim for their performances in a wide variety of venues, including Tate Britain, the Wallace Collection and St Martin-in-the-Fields. The purity of their voices, striking costumes and dramatic interpretations make for a vivid and exhilarating experience.
